Texas Department of Transportation Selects Fluor Joint Venture for Southern Gateway Project

Fluor Corporation announced that the Fluor-led joint venture comprised of Fluor and Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Inc., was selected by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) as the design-build and capital maintenance team for the estimated $625 million Southern Gateway reconstruction and improvement project located along Interstate I-35E and U.S. 67 in Dallas. Working in partnership with TxDOT, the project is slated to begin later this year and continue for four years. The 11-mile project within the City of Dallas and Dallas County includes the reconstruction and widening of both general-purpose and non-tolled managed lanes, thereby contributing to congestion relief, enhanced safety, increased mobility and improvements along I-35E from U.S. 67 to I-30 and from where U.S. 67 splits at I-35E to I-20. The completed project will also substantially reduce the ongoing capital maintenance demands along the Southern Gateway, one of the United States’ primary transportation corridors.
Caltrain Approves $1.25 Billion Contracts as Part of the PCEP

Caltrain has approved contracts totalling $1.25 billion for the electrification of the line between San Francisco and San Jose, as well as procurement of new trains. The contracts form part of the company's $1.9 billion Peninsula Corridor Electrification Project (PCEP). Balfour Beatty Infrastructure has been awarded a $697 million contract to design and build the corridor's electrification infrastructure, while the $551 million train manufacture contract was awarded to Stadler USA. Stadler's contract includes the supply of 96 electric multiple units (EMUs) with an option for a further 20 cars. These new trains will replace the locomotive-hauled trains currently operating on the line and will initially run at maximum speeds of up to 127 kmph. This would be further increased to 177 kmph for blended operation with California High-Speed services.
