Elektrobit Automotive GmbH Key Developments

Elektrobit (EB) Announces Software Product Line

Elektrobit (EB) announced a software product line that will enable automakers to build the complex and powerful electronic control units (ECUs) required for connected, highly automated driving. Called EB corbos, the line consists of three products that represent one of the commercially available software implementations of Adaptive AUTomotive Open System Architecture (AUTOSAR), a new standard. Key features of EB's software include increased focus on the high safety levels with fail-operational systems, as well as support for interconnectivity and over-the-air-updates, all of which will be must-have-features for automotive ECUs. High-performance controllers, powered by a multi-core processor, will be the heart of the future automotive functional architecture, which is expected to see increased centralization and greater complexity. To enable highly automated and connected driving, automakers are consolidating up to 100 single ECUs into a centralized functional architecture with just five to 10 embedded performance controllers at its core. To make this possible, automakers are in need of new software to leverage the capabilities of powerful multi-core processors. EB corbos encompasses three products designed to make it easier for automakers and Tier 1 suppliers to develop these advanced systems. It will also help them to save time and money by enabling them to reuse software components. The EB corbos line encompasses the following products: EB corbos AdaptiveCore, which is the basic software for running Adaptive AUTOSAR. It is ISO 26262-compliant up to ASIL-D, and is the core technology for creating safe, secure, flexible and high-performance ECUs; EB corbos Hypervisor, which is an automotive-grade hypervisor with support for multiple operating systems and ISO 26262 certification up to ASIL-D, ensuring the high levels of safety and security; EB corbos Linux, an automotive-grade POSIX compliant operating system designed for high-performance controllers, based on the Linux-Kernel that can be used in safety-critical systems.

Elektrobit and NXP Semiconductors N.V. Announces Collaboration to Deliver Powerful New Development Platform

Elektrobit (EB) and NXP Semiconductors N.V. announced a collaboration to deliver a powerful new development platform that integrates the NXP BlueBox Automated Drive Development Platform and Elektrobit’s EB robinos software framework for highly automated driving systems. This joint solution will make it easier for automakers to develop highly automated driving functionalities. EB robinos is the first comprehensive, hardware-agnostic software framework that enables carmakers and automotive suppliers to develop and bring to market increasingly automated driving features and manage the complexity of advanced in-car systems. It features: A functional, standardized architecture equipped with open interfaces plus software modules for a variety of different driving features and functionalities; A modular approach that can accelerate the development of automated driving features, integrating the higher functional safety and error management mandatory for automated driving; and Artificial intelligence that makes advanced situation detection and path planning functionality possible. NXP BlueBox is a comprehensive autonomous vehicle computer that meets the stringent safety, power and processing performance requirements of the global automotive industry. Processes the multiple streams of complex sensor data in real time. EB robinos software framework routes these streams to the NXP BlueBox engine, where hardware and software fuse them to create a complete 360° world model around the vehicle.

Elektrobit Adds Four New Software Modules to EB Robinos Framework for Developing Automated Driving Systems

Elektrobit announced four new modules for its EB robinos product line: EB robinos Grid Fusion, EB robinos Path Planning, EB robinos Positioning and EB robinos Safety Management. These modules enable automakers and automotive suppliers to add critical and precise functionalities for Highly Automated Driving (HAD) applications including automated parking, highway driving and lane keeping. Announced in 2016, EB robinos is the first comprehensive, hardware-agnostic framework that enables carmakers and automotive suppliers to develop and bring to market increasingly automated driving features and manage the complexity of advanced in-car systems. The new EB robinos modules are: EB robinos Grid Fusion—This is a flexible environment for developing grid-based sensor data fusion. It allows the HAD systems to deliver information on obstacles and obstacle-free areas and ultimately providing the vehicle with environmental perception and the ability to virtually "see" its surroundings. EB robinos Path Planning—Since it is essential for a highly automated vehicle to follow an exact path along the road, the new EB robinos Path Planning using precise map data provides a framework for flexible medium-term path planning that guides the vehicle to a short-term destination. EB robinos Positioning One of the most important pieces of data in a highly automated vehicle is its precise position: lane following, path planning, tactical planning, and automated parking all require this data from different sources and sensors at different times and in different quality. EB robinos Positioning provides multilevel positioning data with precision up to the decimeter in separate streams for an optimal performance. EB robinos Safety Management: This module ensures that HAD features work perfectly by ensuring flawless safety and error management. It provides supervision of data streams of EB robinos data structures, monitoring processes and identifying potential failures.
