ITV Reportedly Mulls Acquisitions Of UKTV

ITV plc (LSE:ITV) is considering entering into a joint venture valued at £1 billion with British Broadcasting Corporation to acquire half of broadcaster UKTV, the Telegraph newspaper reported on May 28, 2018. According to terms of the joint venture, BBC has the right to buy out its partner at a set price before the end of next week, the newspaper reported. The opportunity to seal the deal will close within two weeks, according to the report. BBC declined to comment on the Telegraph report. ITV and Discovery did not respond to requests for comment outside regular business hours.

BBC Considers Buying Scripps Networks

British Broadcasting Corporation is considering the acquisition of UKTV Interactive Limited for £500 million. BBC intends to acquire full control of UKTV, which is currently a joint venture with Scripps Networks Interactive, Inc. (NasdaqGS:SNI). BBC Worldwide is talking with advisers about borrowing hundreds of millions of pounds from private investors to buy Scripps out from its half. The potential bid comes via a change-of-control clause, since Scripps is the target of a $14.6 billion buyout by Discovery Communications (NASDAQ:DISCA), and the UKTV deal could happen when the Scripps buyout is completed early next year.
