University Of Alabama Appoints Greg Byrne as New Director of Athletics
Jan 17 17
The University of Alabama officially named a new director of athletics, set to take over from the retiring Bill Battle later 2017. After Battle's potential retirement, the spotlight immediately shifted to Greg Byrne - currently the vice president for athletics at the University of Arizona. Byrne was on campus over the weekend and met with Nick Saban during the process, along with other school officials. Battle, 75, will continue to serve until March 1. The New Jersey-based Turnkey Sports and Entertainment handled the search for a new athletic director. Byrne comes to Tuscaloosa with a solid resumé. He's served in his current position since 2010 and previously served as the athletic director at Mississippi State, along with other positions at Kentucky and Oregon State.
