WH Group Limited and Smithfield Foods, Inc. has jointly launched a Tripartite Strategic Partnership Agreement with JD.com and Henan Shuanghui Investment and Development Co. Ltd. According to the agreement, which was announced at an event in New York, the fresh food division of JD.com, JD Fresh, will become the exclusive online sales platform for Smithfield pork products in China. In addition, the parties will sell more than ten kinds of exclusive products on JD.com, and further cooperate on big data, cold chain logistics and foods traceability.
Smithfield and World Food Championships Partner to Create New Pork Category

Smithfield will be joining the World Food Championships as a sponsor in 2017. This year, in partnership with Smithfield, the WFC will host an ancillary Pork Loin Challenge to supplement their Kansas City Barbecue Society and International Barbeque Cookers Association-sanctioned World Barbecue Championship. Smithfield Prime Pork Loins will be distributed to up to 100 teams who have qualified for the World Barbecue Championship during an ancillary contest taking place on November 9. All participants will have free reign to prepare their Smithfield Prime Pork Loin in any way they choose for additional cash prizes. Contestants are encouraged to use their creativity to showcase the versatility of the product and can break down the loins into specialty cuts such as chops, cubes, and strips before cooking them on a grill or smoker.
Smithfield Foods, Inc. to Build a New Distribution Center and Expand its Blast Cell Cold Storage Capabilities at its Processing Facility in Tar Heel, North Carolina

Smithfield Foods, Inc. announced that it will build a new distribution center and expand its blast cell cold storage capabilities at its processing facility in Tar Heel, North Carolina. Smithfield will invest $100 million and add approximately 250 new jobs to bring both projects to life. In addition to the new positions, additional employment opportunities will also be available within Smithfield’s logistics partner. Smithfield will begin construction of the new distribution center this month. The new distribution center will be 500,000 square feet with 47,000 pallet positions. The blast cell cold storage expansion, announced earlier 2017, is underway and will increase the facility’s capacity by 140 million pounds. Both projects will be complete fall 2018. Smithfield’s Tar Heel facility is the largest pork processing plant in the world and produces fresh pork products for customers across the globe.
