Sale Of Los Angeles Times To Patrick Soon-Shiong

Los Angeles biotech billionaire Patrick Soon-Shiong is nearing a deal to buy the Los Angeles Times Communications, LLC from their owner, Tronc, according to two people familiar with the talks. Patrick Soon would pay $500 million for the newspaper, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press.

Los Angeles Times Announces Executive Changes

Los Angeles Times' parent company said that it plans to announce that Jim Kirk will be named the newspaper's editor in chief. Tronc Inc. spokeswoman Marisa Kollias said that it also expected to say that The Times' current top editor, Lewis D'Vorkin, will become chief content officer. The newspaper reported that Kirk was previously publisher and editor of the Chicago Sun-Times and joined Tronc in August. He was named interim editor of the Times on Aug. 21 after a shake-up but stepped aside after D'Vorkin joined The Times in early November.

The Los Angeles Times Media Announces Executive Appointments

The Los Angeles Times Media Group announced that it has named Lewis D’Vorkin as Editor-in-Chief and Mickie Rosen as President, effective immediately. D’Vorkin and Rosen will report to Ross Levinsohn, CEO and Publisher of the Los Angeles Times Media Group. As Editor-in-Chief, D’Vorkin will draw on his considerable experience editing and leading global publications including Forbes,The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek and The New York Times to build upon the Los Angeles Times’ Pulitzer Prize-winning news and investigative reporting while further expanding its coverage of significant political and cultural events. As President, Rosen will play an integral and principal role driving forward the Los Angeles Times Media Group’s strategy as well as digital growth across tronc. She will lead day-to-day operations and have oversight of product development, design, engineering, digital marketing and data analytics across tronc and business development across the Los Angeles Times Media Group’s assets. She will also be responsible for the Group’s emerging businesses, including Tribune Content Agency (TCA), The Daily Meal, For Sale By Owner (FSBO) and The Cube, and will be charged with launching new vertical content brands across the company.
