Artesyn Embedded Technologies Inc. announced the Safety Integrity Level 4 (SIL4) certification for the Artesyn Embedded Computing Inc.ControlSafe™ Carborne Platform with ControlSafe Carborne Computer and ControlSafe Carborne Software. Rail network integrators and operators can save a significant amount of time, cost and risk associated with the system development and certification process for rail safety applications by using a SIL4 certified commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) platform. Certified by TÜV SÜD, one of the most trusted certification bodies worldwide, the ControlSafe Carborne Platform is a fail-safe and fault-tolerant computing platform designed for a wide range of train control and rail signaling applications, especially onboard applications such as automatic train protection (ATP), automatic train operation (ATO), and positive train control (PTC). The new platform can also be used in wayside train control and rail signaling implementations. Housed in a compact 4U chassis with front access I/O and a DC power supply, the ControlSafe™ Carborne Platform can accommodate up to 12 I/O modules and a variety of I/O types. An innovative data lock step architecture, used in all Artesyn ControlSafe Platforms, allows customers to make seamless technology upgrades while a hardware-based voting mechanism maximizes application software transparency. The ControlSafe™ Carborne Platform leverages the same safety architecture and technologies as Artesyn's ControlSafe Platform, ControlSafe Expansion Box Platform and ControlSafe Compact Carborne Platform to provide an application-ready and cost-effective common platform to enable a variety of applications through the integration of Artesyn I/O modules. In addition, Artesyn offers customers the flexibility to develop I/O modules and specify I/O backplane connectivity to meet their specific needs by providing all necessary technical specifications, product support and service.

Artesyn Embedded Technologies Launches ControlSafe Compact Carborne Platform for Train Control and Rail Signaling

Artesyn Embedded Technologies announced the ControlSafe™ Compact Carborne Platform, designed to enable rail system integrators to accelerate time-to-market and reduce the cost and risk of developing or upgrading train control and rail signaling applications. By leveraging a COTS fail-safe and fault-tolerant computing platform, designed to be certified to SIL4, railway technology companies can focus on their value-added offering and final certification for end solutions. All platforms in Artesyn's ControlSafe portfolio use the same core processing and voting functions and this latest model offers a single I/O slot to connect to dedicated external I/O boxes and equipment. With a half-rack-width 4U high chassis, two systems can be installed side-by-side in a standard 19-inch rack. Designed for onboard applications such as automatic train protection (ATP), automatic train operation (ATO), and positive train control (PTC), the new platform can also be used in wayside train control and rail signaling implementations. Artesyn's ControlSafe portfolio includes the ControlSafe Platform, ControlSafe Expansion Box Platform and ControlSafe Carborne Platform. The first two platforms in the portfolio have been both certified to SIL4, while SIL4 certification of the ControlSafe Carborne Platform is anticipated to be complete in October 2017 and certification of the ControlSafe Compact Carborne Platform is planned.

Artesyn Embedded Technologies Announces Compact New Compute and Acceleration Platform

Artesyn Embedded Technologies announced a compact new compute and acceleration platform versatile enough for applications ranging from small cell baseband processing, scalable video streaming/encoding, video surveillance and 'bump-in-the-wire' monitoring to industrial computing. The MaxCore Micro is a cost-effective, enterprise-class chassis which holds a host server card and contains an additional slot for any PCI Express add-in card. This card can be from Artesyn or customers can use third-party off-the-shelf cards to provide application-specific functionality and create a complete application platform. While the MaxCore Micro can stand-alone as a complete system, its form factor allows three chassis to be fitted side-by-side in a 19-inch rack. The platform can be deployed in a wide range of environments, from a 19-inch rack to wall-mount. A power budget of 150 watts per slot means it is possible to build a system with as many as 48 Intel® Xeon® D cores per compact chassis, using two dual-processor 12-core add-in cards such as Artesyn's SharpServer PCIE-7410 card. The company developed several use cases for the MaxCore Micro ranging from a small cell VRAN digital baseband unit (BBU) to an HEVC video capture and encoder system. This underlines the versatility of this platform, supported by switchless PCIe connectivity between the slots at up to 50 Gbps and the wide availability of off-the-shelf PCIe add-in cards.
