Addivant Earns Extended Food Contact Approval from China’s NHFPC for WESTON® 705 Nonylphenol-Free Antioxidant

Addivant announced that China’s National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC) has expanded the usage limit for its nonylphenol-free stabilizer, WESTON® 705, in polyethylene from 1500ppm to 2000ppm. Already approved for use in more than 180 countries for food-contact packaging, WESTON® 705 is the only nonylphenol-free liquid phosphite antioxidant alternative with food-contact approvals in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and China. This enables resin producers and packaging manufacturers to employ a single, global solution for Consumer Packaged Goods for customers looking to stay ahead of the regulatory curve. The result of more than seven years of research and investment, WESTON® 705 is the most thoroughly tested new plastic antioxidant on the market. Addivant™ is dedicated to Responsible Care®, the chemical industry’s initiative to protect the environment; while ensuring the safety and security of operations; and safeguarding the health and safety of employees and neighboring communities. The goal is to make continuous progress toward the vision of no accidents, injuries or harm to the environment. As active and responsible members of the communities, Addivant™ is committed to open communication with employees and neighbors. The company monitors the safe production, transportation, and use of its products.

Addivant Increases Production Capacity for its High-Performance Polymer Antioxidant ULTRANOX(R) 626

Addivant announced that it has expanded by over 40% the production capacity of its high-performance antioxidant ULTRANOX(R) 626 at their Morgantown, WV plant in the USA. Additionally, the company is pursuing the extension of global food contact approvals for ULTRANOX(R) 626, allowing for a broader use in food packaging. ULTRANOX(R) 626 is a high-performance, organophosphite antioxidant used in a wide variety of polymers including polyolefins, elastomer and engineering plastics. ULTRANOX(R) 626 has a higher phosphorus concentration than traditional phosphite antioxidants. It can therefore be used at lower concentration, resulting in low migration and low volatile-content plastics, which are major requirements of the packaged food and automotive markets. In this same context, the company announced earlier this year the completion of the 3-fold expansion of its polyethylene and elastomer food contact antioxidant WESTON(R) 705, reinforcing its commitment to the polymer industry.

Addivant(TM) Receives Formal Approval from the US Food and Drug Administration for Food Contact

Addivant(TM) announced that its nonylphenol-free stabilizer, WESTON(R) 705, has received formal approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for food contact use in styrene block polymers. It covers the use of WESTON(R) 705 at levels up to 2000 ppm for food contact use in multiple types of styrene based systems such as SIS, SBS, SEBS and SIBS. This expands the food contact use of WESTON(R) 705 in styrene block polymers beyond the recent FDA approvals for repeat use articles intended for infant formula and breast milk.
