Clorox Co. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-08-03\/clorox-outlook-shows-inflation-seen-eroding-profit-into-2023\">expects profit to take a hit this year<\/a> as inflation and interest rates rise; BMW<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-08-03\/bmw-beats-expectations-on-strong-demand-offsetting-chip-woes\"> has benefited from record orders but expects demand to soften<\/a>. And Beyond Meat\u2019s plant-based meat alternatives are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-08-04\/beyond-meat-falls-after-slashing-sales-outlook-as-demand-wanes\">out of many consumers\u2019 price range<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>The issue<\/h2>\n<p>When coupled with supply chain issues, rising costs have left consumer-focused companies faced with major decisions on strategy. Some have raised prices; others have shifted inventory or even postponed initial public offerings.<\/p>\n<p>For low-cost retailers, inflation raises questions about pricing strategy, with some competitors taking divergent paths. One of the first nonessential items to go is often entertainment. Such cutbacks have upended the streaming industry and are forcing companies to make bold and strategic moves to compete. For example, Netflix Inc. has been having a rough time, with subscribers hitting pause, and being the S&amp;P 500\u2019s worst performer this year through August 18<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Netflix executives have been very vocal about their pricing strategies.
