The market has taken a beating and the vast majority of ETFs have negative returns in 2022. We’re going to take a look at the small funds that are breaking through to the big leagues in this tough environment while also highlighting the ETFs that have managed to buck the market downtrend and earn positive returns in 2022.

James is an Analyst covering ETFs and the broader fund industry (and to a lesser extent, Crypto Assets). In this role, he writes research for Bloomberg Intelligence (BI ETFS and BI COMD). Before becoming an analyst with Bloomberg Intelligence, James spent the early parts of his career working in Bloomberg's data department. He maintained the data on US and Canadian Funds ranging from ETFs to Hedge Funds but primarily focusing on the ETF space. He has assisted in the creation and development of multiple ETF functions on the terminal. James is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®), a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA®) and a member of their New York societies/chapters. He has a B.S. in Finance and Accounting from The College Of New Jersey (TCNJ).

Eric Balchunas

Eric Balchunas is Senior ETF Analyst for Bloomberg Intelligence where he writes for and leads the fund research team. He also helped create and appears on the first-ever ETF TV show called Bloomberg ETF IQ as well as a podcast called Trillions. He is also a Bloomberg Opinion contributor and author of The Institutional ETF Toolbox, which was published by Wiley in March 2016. Eric holds a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Environmental Economics from Rutgers University.

Athanasios Psarofagis is an ETF analyst for Bloomberg Intelligence. Prior to joining Bloomberg, he held roles in ETF groups at OppenheimerFunds and IndexIQ. Before that, he was in product development at Nasdaq. He has a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Connecticut.
