Bloomberg Professional Services
In this episode of Bloomberg Expert Access, a series spotlighting the crucial work and industry impact of our research teams, Breanne Dougherty, Head of Thematic Strategy at Bloomberg Intelligence, highlights the difference between thematic classifications and sector classifications. She also unpacks the role private markets play in rapidly evolving themes, like AI.
“It is really important for the new innovation that’s coming into the market,” she says. “A lot of it does come in the private market space, so something that we track really closely is that intersection. An example of that, for instance, is we currently have a database of private companies that we’ve also mapped to themes, which has been exciting to look at and see how it translates into what we’ve done on the public equity side… AI names have been investing quite heavily in the private market space and in private companies especially,” she notes. “It allows us to get a really good idea as to how some of these public [AI companies] are investing or leaning in potentially towards growth or where they’re seeing opportunity related to their own business models. That’s been a really exciting aspect of the work that we’ve been doing.”
