There are a couple of tailwinds in the US spurring the advanced nuclear market on. First is the demand for 24/7 clean power from data centers, and the second is the support for nuclear energy from the Trump administration. Big tech companies and data center providers in the US have announced 18 partnerships encompassing more than 32GW of capacity with nuclear power providers. Additionally, the US government, having set an ambitious target of 400GW of nuclear online by 2050, is pushing the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to shorten permitting review timelines. There are 12 advanced nuclear reactor startups engaging with the US government to secure construction permits and operation licenses. Collectively they have raised $2.8 billion since 2016 and will need to raise much more in order to scale. In this AskBNEF Claire Curry is joined by Stephanie Diaz and Chris Gadomski to take a look at these companies, their technologies, their progress to date, and to assess the likelihood of success for this market.
