Bloomberg Named Official Calculating Agent for HKSAR Government Sustainable Bonds and Infrastructure Bonds
Hong Kong – Bloomberg today announced that the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), as representative of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (HKSAR Government), has appointed Bloomberg as the official calculating agent for HKSAR institutional government bonds under the Government Sustainable Bond Programme (GSBP) and Infrastructure Bond Programme (IBP).
Bloomberg has started calculating and publishing the indicative pricings and yields of those government bonds since October 23, 2024 with the inaugural programme’s new HKD 5.5 billion GBHK 2.89% 10/25/27 and the CNY 1 billion GBHK 2.13% 10/28/27 issues.
The calculation of indicative pricings and yields is performed twice a day and the information is published as soon as the relevant calculation is completed, subject to availability of pricing data. The information is available to global investors on the Hong Kong Government Bonds website and to Bloomberg users on the Bloomberg Terminal and via Bloomberg’s Enterprise Data solutions. Bloomberg electronic trading solutions can also be accessed through the Bloomberg Terminal, allowing both local and international investors to trade or negotiate those bonds in the secondary markets.
The HKSAR Government has been taking lead in issuing green bonds to promote Hong Kong’s status as a green and sustainable finance hub. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, the HKSAR Government issued USD 14.4 billion worth of green bonds last year, the most in the Asia-Pacific region. The HKSAR Government has announced plans to offer a total of approximately USD 15.4 billion worth of government bonds for the fiscal year ending March 2025 under the GSBP and IBP.
“We are excited to work with the HKMA to build stronger bond markets with increased liquidity in Hong Kong, and to strengthen Hong Kong’s position as a key international financial center,” said Bing Li, Head of Asia-Pacific at Bloomberg. “Bloomberg was founded with a mission to empower the markets with transparent, accurate and timely information. Reliable indicative pricings and yields like these will further enhance investor confidence, supporting them to make informed decisions and facilitate their participation in Hong Kong’s financial markets.”
Bloomberg has a track record of calculating and distributing reference rates on behalf of central banks, ministry of finance and market associations around the world and building sophisticated sovereign curves to facilitate capital market pricing, secondary market trading and macro research. Bloomberg users can access the new indicative pricings and yields through {GBHK<GO>}, {ALLQ<GO>}, {HKBP<GO>} on the Bloomberg Terminal and via Data License.
