Holding the Senate would give Democrats time to make high-priority appointments and start spending money promised under the Inflation Reduction Act.

Even if the clerics temporarily stifle the demands of a new generation of Iranians with violence and terror, this can only be a recipe for many more revolts to come.  

Electoral reform, raising the debt ceiling and getting nominees confirmed should top the president’s agenda before the new Congress is sworn in.
