Sanders Outspending Clinton by $24 Million in Primary

The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee had raised just $6 million more than Sanders through May 31.

Bernie Sanders outspent Hillary Clinton by at least $24 million in the Democratic primary, according to financial disclosures released Monday. 

Sanders, who entered the presidential race on April 30, 2015, spent $219.9 million through May 31, 2016, in his longshot bid to defeat Clinton. Having kicked of her campaign two weeks earlier, on April 16, Clinton spent $195.7 million through the end of May. 

Figures for the month of June, which includes spending by both candidates in the primaries in states like California, will likely not be reported until July. 

As far as fundraising goes, Sanders raised an impressive $226.3 million through May 31, while Clinton raised $232.4 million.
