Pacific-Trade Deal ‘Probably a Good Thing,’ Bush Says in IowaMichael C. Bender
Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush says U.S.-brokered Trans-Pacific Partnership would likely “create real opportunities to open up markets” and lift “huge barriers of entry” for agriculture industry, particularly in Asia.
- “I’ll tell you one group that is probably doing celebrating, which is Iowa agriculture”
- “We don’t have as many barriers, whether they’re tariff or non-tariff, as other countries, particularly countries like Japan and southeast Asia. And so, without seeing the deal, if there’s been a major reductions in tariff and non-tariff barriers in these countries, and we haven’t had many to reduce because they didn’t exist, I would think that’s probably a good thing for our country”
