Finding Excellence Is as Tough as Judge Hitting 62 Homers

Hitting a baseball isn’t like other jobs, but all jobs should find ways to let the best workers stand out.

You don’t need to care about baseball to pay attention to Aaron Judge’s 62nd home run. You only need to care about the difficulty of identifying talented people.

Finding talent is hard. The tougher the standard, the more likely we’ll miss someone special. The looser the standard, the more likely we’ll obscure the ability of special people to stand out from the crowd.
