The UK Is Being Distracted From Its Real Problems

The “Wagatha Christie” case is salacious, deliciously petty, and ultimately a wildly unimportant blip in media consumers’ lives.

Less than three years ago, four words were written into UK pop culture history: “It’s …………. Rebekah Vardy’s account.”

For the uninitiated, those words were written by Coleen Rooney, media personality and wife of footballer Wayne Rooney. In October 2019, she publicly accused Vardy, a model and fellow footballer’s wife, of spreading fake stories about her private life to the media. Rooney was crowned “Wagatha Christie” for her months-long “sting operation,” which was conducted mainly through Instagram Stories.
