AOC's 'Tax the Rich' Dress Could've Used a Different Slogan

New York’s most prominent progressive could have used the Met Gala to highlight a favorite tax loophole for the wealthy.

Another slogan might’ve been more appropriate for this event.

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez attended last week’s Met Gala wearing a dress emblazoned with the slogan, “Tax the Rich.” It’s certainly catchier than what would have been a more appropriate slogan: “This Event Is a Tax Loophole for the Rich.”

Intended to attract attention from her fellow celebrity guests as well as the mainstream media, AOC’s dress instead became a focal point for the ire of the right. Conservatives argued it was hypocritical to mingle with the economic elite while denouncing them. AOC suggested that the criticism is an example of American culture being “deeply disdainful and unsupportive of women, especially women of color and working class women.”
