Coca-Cola Co. is going outside of its comfort zone in its pursuit of a caffeine buzz.

The beverage giant on Friday said it agreed to acquire Costa for $5.1 billion, a deal that would bring into its stable a brick-and-mortar coffee chain with about 4,000 stores across the globe.
