Dispatches from this year’s Christmas wars:
Last year’s edition was all about litigation. This year I will mention only one case, and that briefly. A federal court in Washington has denied the request by the Catholic archdiocese for an “emergency” injunction allowing it to purchase advertising space on the side of city buses for its “Find the Perfect Gift” campaign. The Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority rejected the ads under its rule barring religious advertisements. If you think there’s a war on Christmas, you’re probably outraged. If you think that’s all a bunch of right-wing hokum, you probably don’t see what the fuss is all about.
