  • 00:00SEMI PRESIDENT. RECORD ATTENDANCE HERE. 100,000 PEOPLE EXPECTED TO COME THROUGH THE DOORS. THANKS VERY MUCH FOR JOINING US THIS MORNING. WE CAN START OFF, WHAT ARE YOUR KEY AGENDA ITEMS GOING INTO THIS EVENT? AS YOU SAID, RECORD ATTENDANCE, BECAUSE THE MOMENTUM IS REALLY HIGH. AND MOMENTUM IS REALLY BECAUSE OF THE INFLECTIONS IN THE INDUSTRY. ESPECIALLY AI FUELING THE GROWTH, UNPRECEDENTED GROWTH BECAUSE OF AI, AND QUANTUM IS AROUND THE BLOCK. MOST PEOPLE ARE INTERESTED IN UNDERSTANDING HOW TO ENABLE THE GROWTH AND BENEFIT FROM THE INNOVATION. MORE COLLABORATION WITH TAIWAN, TAIWAN HAS ESTABLISHED ITSELF AS THE INNOVATION LANDMARK OF TECHNOLOGY AND MANUFACTURING, EVERYTHING. TAIWAN HAS BECOME NOT ONLY THE HOUSEHOLD NAME WHEN IT COMES TO SEMICONDUCTORS. IT HAS BECOME THE -- THE WAY I SEE IT, YOU ASK PEOPLE ABOUT SEMI CONDUCTORS, AND THE FIRST REGION THEY WILL TALK ABOUT IS TAIWAN. ANNABELLE: THE COMPANIES HERE ARE STILL UNDER PRESSURE. WE DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN WITH TARIFFS. WE JUST HAD PRESIDENT TRUMP THREATENING SUBSTANTIAL TARIFFS ON COMPANIES THAT ARE NOT MOVING SOME OF THEIR OPERATIONS TO THE U.S. HOW ARE YOU ALSO ENGAGING WITH COMPANIES IN THAT TOPIC? I WILL TELL YOU FIRST OF ALL SEMI IS REALLY POLITICALLY AGNOSTIC. WE DO NOT COMMENT UPON THE GEOPOLITICS TOPICS WHEN IT COMES TO COMPANIES. THE IMPORTANT THING IS THIS. THESE THINGS ARE GOING THROUGH A LOT OF DISCUSSIONS RIGHT NOW. MOST IMPORTANT THING IS THAT EVERY COMPANY AND EVERY COUNTRY HAS VERY CLEAR GOALS AND STRATEGIC DIRECTIONS. MY GUIDANCE TO THEM IS JUST FOCUS ON YOUR STRATEGIC DIRECTIONS AND THESE THINGS WILL SETTLE. THEY WILL GET SETTLED. ALSO MY GUIDANCE IS, NO RETALIATION. WORK WITH THEIR COUNTERPARTS AND NEGOTIATE AND KEEP GOING. I AM CONFIDENT THAT WITHIN A FEW MONTHS TO COME, THINGS WILL GET SETTLED. THINGS CHANGE EVERYDAY. TO MAKE COMMENT OR REACTION ON WHAT HAPPENED TODAY, IT WILL CHANGE TOMORROW SO I FIND IT NOT NECESSARY TO REFLECT TOO MUCH ON THE. -- ON THAT. ANNABELLE: WHAT ARE THE CONCERNS YOU HEAR FROM COMPANIES LOOKING TO MOVE TO THE U.S.? THE AVAILABILITY OF TALENT AND HIRING IN THE U.S. AS WELL. WE HAD THE RAID ON THE KOREAN PLANS IN -- PLANT IN THE U.S. A FEW DAYS AGO ALSO. HOW DO YOU THINK COMPANIES CAN DEAL WITH THOSE ISSUES AND THOSE THREATS AS WELL? FIRST OF ALL, THE TALENT IS A REAL CHALLENGE. AS THE INDUSTRY IS DOUBLING, I SEE THE AVENUE FOR DOUBLING IN THE NEXT SIX OR SEVEN YEARS. STEM EDUCATION HAS BEEN GOING DOWN IN THE WESTERN WORLD AND IN THE ASIAN POPULATION, IT IS GOING DOWN, SO IT IS A REAL CHALLENGE. ON A GLOBAL BASIS, WE ARE ADDRESSING THE TALENT SHORTAGE PROBLEM. SO EXPEDITING THE STEM EDUCATION, INCENTIVIZING SCHOOLS FOR MROE -- FOR MORE STEM INVOLVEMENT. WE HAVE STARTED THIS AT THE GLOBAL LEVEL AND NATIONAL LEVEL IN OTHER COUNTRIES. IT IS GOING TO TAKE TIME. IN THE U.S. WHERE YOU ASKED, THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE RELEASES EVERY YEAR A BIG FOCUS ON RE-SKILLING THOSE FOLKS INTO THE SEMICONDUCTOR INDUSTRY AND CREATING A TALENT PIPELINE THERE. THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING IN TAIWAN ALSO. THE PRESIDENT ASKED ME FOR THIS THREE OR FIVE YEARS AGO. WE CAN BRING THE PLAYBOOK TO OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD. BUT BESIDES THAT, RESCALING, WE HAVE ALSO LAUNCHED SEMI UNIVERSITY WITH MORE THAN 700 ONLINE COURSES. WE CAN HELP THEIR STUDENTS WHILE THEY ARE STARTING TO GET SOME INDUSTRY CONTACTS SO THEY ARE READY TO ROLL. ANNABELLE: ONE OF THE THINGS WE HAVE WATCHED AS THE ADVANCES WE SEE FROM THE CHINA TRIP PLAYS AS WELL -- CHIP PLAYS AS WELL THAT HAVE CAUGHT THE ATTENTION OF A LOT OF INVESTORS, THERE'S HUAW EI, THERE'S A LOT OF PLAYERS WITHIN THE ECOSYSTEM NOW BUT WHAT DO YOU MAKE OF THE GAP BETWEEN THE U.S. AND CHINA AND IS NOT CLOSING AT ALL IN YOUR OPINION? I AM SURE EVERYBODY IS TRYING TO CLOSE THE GAPS. BUT THE GAPS ARE ALSO GROWING BECAUSE THERE'S SO MUCH TO HAPPEN. WHAT WE HAVE SEEN ON AI IS JUST THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG. A LOT MORE IS TO COME. A LOT MORE HAS TO HAPPEN. I DON'T THINK PEOPLE KNOW WHAT THE GAPS ARE EXACTLY. BUT WE KNOW THAT THERE IS SO MUCH YET TO HAPPEN. LOOK, AI WAS FIRST TALKED ABOUT 50 OR 60 YEARS AGO AND NOTHING HAPPENED. AND NOW ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE IS MOMENTUM AND PEOPLE ARE STARTING TO PAY ATTENTION AND SING THE BENEFITS OF AI. I SEE THE GROWTH IN THE INDUSTRY. 50% OF THE GROWTH OF THE INDUSTRY AS A I ENABLED -- IS AI ENABLED CHIPS. THE GAPS, THE MORE WE INVEST, I THINK WE WILL ADVANCE AND
