  • 00:00How did he lose two hundred billion dollars in the year 2022 shaped up to be sort of a perfect storm for Moscow. Part of it in his own making equities had come off their highs in late 2021 and then the Russian invasion of Ukraine sort of turbocharged that and led to all kinds of global economic problems, including rising inflation, higher interest rates. And that led to a lot of these pandemic hype stocks that rose a lot in the two years prior, really falling quite sharply. And Tesla was one of those. And then there was the acquisition of Twitter, which at first seemed like a ploy. And then it actually was serious. Then it happened. And that comes with cold, hard financial realities. Musk It caused Musk a lot of money and it also tied up his personal finances in a way that hadn't really been the case in the past. And it's taking a lot of time away from his focus on Tesla to that point. Honors You've spent much of your career poring over various investor documents, page documents. Talk us through Tesla and Musk. Why did things look like they're that made? Musk the richest person. So the three there are three things that made must the person that he is in terms of wealth. So he's received over the years three really large compensation packages from Tesla, bunches of stock options, and they've helped build his stake in the company. But more importantly, they've been really great pieces of advertising because they've been so big and so audacious in their nature and size that they've sort of set the agenda for where the company is headed. And it's made Tesla stay at the top of the discourse over the years. And that, in turn, I think you can argue, has helped build and solidify Musk's base of really diehard investor fans. And that's helped prop up the share price. But now, when people are more worried about where things stand with the company and how he spends his time, Tesla versus Twitter, I think you're seeing the result in the share price that people aren't certain anymore, at least not in the short term.

Musk May Never Be World’s Richest Man Again

January 11th, 2023, 8:11 AM GMT+0000

Elon Musk was the world’s richest man, but he might not be able to reclaim that top spot. The CEO of Tesla Inc. and Twitter Inc. has not had the best year. In 2022, he became the first person ever to have $200 billion of his own money erased. Anders Melin reports on Bloomberg Television. (Source: Bloomberg)
