00:00UK dockworkers plan to bring Britain's biggest container ship port to a standstill worsening the country's supply chain problems amid a bitter dispute between unions and government ministers. And finally this week barristers and workers at British telecoms will also be striking here in the UK. So joining us to talk about this week and of course of summer strikes is our very own Lizzy Burden. Lizzy I mean these strikes I mean how much will they actually hurt the UK economy. It's a very French of them. Well it feels costly because of course chaos is what the unions want. They're under immense pressure to secure pay rises because if they can't do it no cost of living crisis. When can they be in terms of the actual economic cost. The Center for Economics and Business Research said the June strikes in travel would cost one hundred million pounds. That's really small fry frankly compared to the overall size of the U.K. economy. People are much better adapted to working from home post pandemic. You've got more bike use because the bike network has improved. So that's the cost of disruption. There's also the risk of a wage price spiral. But even Bloomberg Economics says that that is not a major risk because compared to the 1970s the Bank of England's independent there's much less unionization. So really the economic cost of a summer of discontent could be much less than that winter of discontent from history.
