  • 00:00In what ways do you see offices homes factories really try to I guess try and curb their energy wastage. Thank you for having me. India is under a massive heatwave right now and everybody is thinking about how to lose their homes and offices. And one of the most important ways to do this is to buy most energy efficient appliances. So whether it's the roomy air conditioner or fans just to give you a couple of data points start not indifference is about six million a season in a year which is predicted to grow to about 15 million 10 times in about 20 years time. And then fires in the equities is about 60 million fans and DAX predicted to a group of about 200 million in about another 20 years time. So really is I think we are at the top of the agenda and and we are really pushing hard for people to adopt energy efficient appliances and energy efficient homes especially for affordable income people because they won't be able to pull their homes with air conditioning. Do you think it would get to the point that the government therefore actually implements energy efficiency targets as well particularly as it's trying to hit its 2030 goals. Absolutely. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He made a very very aggressive commitment to reduce our energy emissions intensity by 45 percent. Leading up to 2013. And this reduction in energy intensity our emissions intensive he has to come from Paul Sweeney billion RTS as well as energy efficiency. We believe that about two thirds of this emissions intensity is likely to come from installation of renewable energy so that energy and farms set up a mass usage. But about 15 percent about one third of the reduction in emissions intensity has to come from better buildings most efficient buildings green buildings more efficient appliances more efficient processes to produce a greener cement A.D.. So that economy wide implications of what our prime minister has committed is quite significant. And given the developmental imperative that it gave specie energy efficiency has to be at the heart of the. Yeah it's quite an ambitious target to Dr. Kumar of reducing emissions intensity by 45 percent from 2005 levels. What do you think are some of the kind of low hanging fruits that the country can actually tackle at this point to meet those goals. So I'll come back to I think you what's going to be done in the building sector. A bite from mom was people thinking that we can and we will have to pay more money to actually design our buildings. We actually believe that just to careful design and better orientation selection of insulation materials high performance lazy. You can actually use the energy density of buildings. So rather than trying to spend more on fancy projects and technology sometimes designing the building where it can actually drive down the energy consumption by 50 percent. So this is in our opinion kind of like the cheapest fastest and greenest way. The other thing I would say is that energy efficient fancy media consume much humongous amount of energy at a national level. About 70 percent of the global electricity that India purchases was for fan consumption and an equivalent amount for a season approximately. So what can be done is that India has an installed base of about 500 million fans and they can be replaced by BBC fans which will consume 50 percent less energy. So these are some low hanging fruits that India can start to. And Dr. Kamar of course we've been tracking this this global energy crisis that's happening. Oil prices remain quite elevated. I have to ask you whether you think wow where these prices are going. Do you think that actually speeds up Russia's slowdowns the shift to renewables. So I feel that the higher the last but one prices I think he is going to fast track adoption of more renewable energy and more energy efficient technologies. Because what happens is that most of their energy efficient technologies the return on investment on them becomes so much more attractive in an environment that energy prices are high. And also I think the carbon saving stuff that a lot of companies are trying to DAX when they are building these renewable energy power plants they also become much much more attractive. So these higher prices I think in a perverse way are good news for both renewable energy and energy efficiency must be in.
