00:00[CC may contain inaccuracies] Emma we know that it's been a stop start sort of situation when it comes to the rolling back of restrictions but it seems that they've got to a point where they're feeling confident about declaring at least this battle has been won. Yeah that's right. You've got this party Congress meeting over the weekend without really beating that drum that they have declared victory over Covid. That said you are still seeing Idol cases including in the community in Shanghai and they are still part of the city that a declared high risk. That's when a case emerges or there's a close contact. So the risk is still very much there in terms of restrictions coming down. But I think that they're really trying to impress on the population that they have moved on from that very brutal lockdown. And of course we are expecting President Xi Jinping to visit Hong Kong at a time when we are seeing rising cases there. What do we know. Yeah I mean I think that's very very interesting. I think it surprised a lot of people that she actually is going to come when you've got almost 2000 new daily Covid cases a day. That would be you know red alert lockdown territory on the mainland. So we expect he'll be very much inside a very tight bubble. There won't be much physical contact. He'll probably only appear at maybe one or two events very stylized and very restricted. But you know obviously very important to the Communist Party to show their hold over Hong Kong to attend this event and have their top leader there. This will be the first visit outside mainland China since the pandemic began. So very very symbolic and significant. The Xi Jinping.

Shanghai Declares Victory Against Covid-19 Pandemic

The head of Shanghai’s Communist Party declared victory in defending the city against the Covid-19 pandemic over the weekend. Restaurants in some areas of the city with lower Covid risks can resume dine-in services starting from Wednesday, the municipal government said. Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit Hong Kong this week to mark the city’s 25th anniversary of Chinese rule. Emma O'Brien reports on Bloomberg Television. (Source: Bloomberg)
