  • 00:00One side they're watching today. Again AstraZeneca signing a deal with two U.S. government agencies plus Vanderbilt University to develop antibodies that could prevent and treat the Corona virus. For more let's bring in Sam Bizarrely senior farmer analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence and breaks down all the details as all this comes out. What does this mean . Yeah. So what does this mean. Obviously it's not a new deal Alex. It's someone that they had signed the kind of preliminary version or whatever you want to call it a couple of months ago with Vanderbilt University in terms of getting access or looking to develop these antibodies. And they just join the queue of other companies being able working on these antibody treatments. So they're not quite vaccines . There's what we call passive vaccines where rather than making the patient raising immunity themselves you kind of give them an injection that gives them an immunity for X amount of time . And obviously you know further raise the profile of AstraZeneca Sam in the United States I think one of the concerns that people were talking about around the guilty idea was whether or not there would be a political problem. How how how acceptable in the United States is AstraZeneca now. It seems to be becoming increasingly embedded in the response to covert 19. Yes sure. That's an interesting angle I hadn't thought about to be honest with you. A guy at the end of the day they are a company that currently sells a similar type of product for an infectious disease. It's called syndicates and it's used for the treatment of respiratory since sexual virus . It's an antibody. So it's so it's an area that they know and they obviously have partnered now with a US well-known US facility. So maybe it does help them. Honestly I never really wondered what the political angle of Astra Gilliard would be . I just can't see why that would be an issue when it ends up essentially being a merger of two companies with a little overlap. So not a lot of cost cutting required either . But yeah you're right. Absolutely. Hope that guy . You just um Sam guy. That was impressive. I did you back often that sort of raising the profile in the US for AstraZeneca. I mean this is a defense and biomedical agencies. Like if this works. I can't imagine the US than being okay with AstraZeneca giving this antibody first to the UK or another country. Yeah . Remember with these with these that. That's a very good point again Alex. These antibodies you're not looking at giving it to every everybody under the sun. This is something that you're going to use most likely for treatment. And they're not the only ones. In fact the company that's leading in this if you want to call it a race is Eli Lilly. They're the ones that are in human trials as of the 1st of June with their antibody. And then a second one just started today and that's developed in collaboration with Jun Shu Bio Sciences. So there you've got Eli Lilly in the lead. You've got these come into the game GlaxoSmithKline and Veer Biotechnology. And they've also got the regeneration of course. So there's lots of others in it with skin in the game and all will probably be starting Phase 1 trials in June. And at the end of the day you don't need that many doses if you're going to be using it as a treatment. So I think that the pressure on getting doses to everybody is going to be a lot less for this than it will be for a vaccine . What's caught your eye over the last 24 48 hours sound kind of where are we in terms of the race to find either the therapeutic treatments that we're trying to figure out used to treat CAC 19 all the vaccine. How much progress is being made. The kind of the story is going a little quieter over the last kind of day a few days and weeks. Well it has. You're right guy. And part of what's caught my eye I think is that I think people have started to forget that there's a virus out there. You know when you see scenes of of of demonstrations and protests it's a trend . And you just feels like the market and the world just wants to move on and get back to its normal life. So let's hope that doesn't trigger a another second wave . But in terms of what's been developing June is the hot month . We're going to get some more data from whether or not we're going to get data from the vaccines. We're going to get some data from some of these antibodies more likely in July. Because it takes time to recruit and get the patient's data out. So we're now moving to the phase of actually getting human data . That's what I've been waiting for so we can really sink our teeth into it .
