  • 00:00EXPECTATIONS FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH . NOW WE ARE LOOKING AT UNCERTAINTY ON TO POLICY FRONTS, TRADE AND MONETARY POLICY. THOSE ARE THE UNCERTAINTIES THE MARKETS ARE STRUGGLING WITH , AND WILL BE FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS, AT LEAST. > > THANK YOU. FOLLOW THE MONEY. 19 OF THE LARGEST PUBLICLY TRADED CORPORATIONS ANNOUNCED BONUSES, RAISES, AND WORKER INVESTMENTS AFTER THE NEW TAX LAW, BUT THAT IS NOT TO THE FULL STORY. WHERE EXACTLY ARE THE TAX SAVINGS GOING? MARK WHITAKER JOINS US NOW. WHAT WERE THE MAIN FINDINGS OF YOUR STUDY, WHICH WAS PRETTY WIDE RANGING. MARK: WE ARE TRACKING COMPANIES ANNOUNCEMENTS, AND ESSENTIALLY TRACKING THE MONEY, HOW THE WINDFALL IS BEING ALLOCATED. FOR THE 95 OR SO COMPANIES THAT HAVE ANNOUNCED -- AND THE NUMBER IS GOING UP WEEK BY WEEK -- ABOUT 6% OF THE MONEY, ABOUT $45 BILLION IN TOTAL, IS GOING TO WORKERS. > > 6%. > > 6%. AND OVER HALF OF THAT IS GOING OUT IN THE FORM OF ONE-TIME BONUSES, ABOUT 30% IS GOING OUT IN THE FORM OF MORE PERMANENT WAGE INCREASES OR IMPROVING BENEFITS. SO, OF AVENUE 58% IS GOING TO SHAREHOLDERS, 22% -- ABOUT 58% IS GOING TO SHAREHOLDERS, 22% IN TWO JOB CREATION -- INTO JOB CREATION, AND THE REST INTO NEW PRODUCTS AND CHARITABLE GIVING. > > IS IT TOO EARLY TO BE ASSESSING THIS, GIVEN THAT THE TAX CUTS JUST PASSED A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO? > > I DON ' T KNOW. WE ARE TRACKING ON A LIVE BASIS. AS MORE COMPANIES ANNOUNCE WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO BE DOING, WE ADD THAT TO THE LIST. WE HAVE ALSO WRITTEN TO ALL THE COMPANIES WE COVER, ABOUT 1000 COMPANIES, ASKING THEM WHAT IS THEIR TAX WINDFALL AND WHAT ARE THEY GOING TO BE DOING WITH IT. WE WILL BE PUBLISHING THE RESULTS AND LET THE DATA SPEAK FOR ITSELF. > > IT DOES SEEM THAT SHAREHOLDERS ARE BENEFITING FROM THE WINDFALL, BUT THERE ARE NO RULES THAT SAY YOU HAVE TO DO THIS WITH THE MONEY. > > NOT AT ALL. JPMORGAN GOT ABOUT $1.8 BILLION IN THE TAX WINDFALL. 3% OF THAT IS GOING TO WORKERS IN THE FORM OF WAGE INCREASES, BUT THE BULK IS GOING TO NEW PRODUCTS, AFFORDABLE HOUSING, FINANCING, ACCESS TO HOUSING FOR LOW INCOME COMMUNITIES. BANK OF AMERICA, ABOUT 2% IS GOING TO WORKERS IN THE FORM OF A ONE-TIME BONUS. THERE ARE NO RULES ABOUT WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO WITH IT, BUT THE QUESTION IS, WHAT IS JUST? WHERE SHOULD THAT MONEY FLOW? > > COULD THEY BE AFFECTED BY THESE NEW TARIFFS? > > GREAT QUESTION. OF THE COMPANIES THAT HAVE ANNOUNCED SO FAR, ABOUT 30% ARE BANKS. AND THEN YOU HAVE COMPANIES LIKE HOME DEPOT, LOWE ' S, FEDEX, SO ON. > > WE KNOW SOME COMPANIES HAVE
