  • 00:00We focus on energy across the board. So we look at both conventional energy as well as renewables and we look at both the supply side. So in terms of power and fuel which are obviously important parts of the market but also the demand side . So where energy is used in the built environment in transportation markets as well as in manufacturing big uses of energy. And one of the most important areas over the last several years that we've invested in and many others as well is on the energy efficiency side. So how energy is used particularly in a low cost environment is important in terms of both managing the cost but also gathering information being able to moderate and modulate how energy is used throughout those systems on the demand side is very important and that covers both the power side as well as the fuel side. So it's a pretty broad market energy technology but it you know it's really focused. When you look at both the supply and demand side it encompasses a lot of the economy. Well you've made over 50 investments across the energy sector. Neal we're actually are you experiencing the best success for Bremer Well it's in a number of areas. The transportation markets right now are really growing in terms of new technology and that's being driven by a lot of the sectors need for more competition against the new incumbents that are coming out. So if you look at the Transportation markets we've made some investments on electric vehicles side. There's a hole obviously big area of focus on autonomous vehicles as well as just looking at new business models the whole sharing economy has entered the transportation market. So how vehicles will be used in the future is very important. We have a big investment in a company called charge point which is the largest supplier of electric vehicle charging stations in North America. They have about 70 percent of that market and that's exploding as the use of electric vehicles is continuing to grow and is expected to grow quite dramatically over the next few years. And we're also looking at ridesharing and how vehicles will be used. Different business models there are very interesting. So we look at that as well. I'll just mention one other because it is based here in Montreal which is where I am today in your office here in the city. We're looking at a company that we've been invested in for quite a while that has a track a market that focuses on looking at converting garbage municipal solid waste and making it into a value added fuel and chemical a very important way to take something that people throw out garbage and then make it into something value added With all the focus on pressure on landfills and incineration going away around the world. This is a very important technology that's been foster really here in Canada just started up in the University of Sherbrooke and outside of Montreal and has been very much supported by both Canadian and U.S. capital did Neal do you think that follow on financings in a company like charge point for example where you did make a follow on financing this year. Can you share with us what the long term outlook is for capital requirements for a business like charge point well the long term capital requirements will probably be funded by people who own the real estate and will supply the both the electricity as well as the site selection for where those stations will be employed. We make the systems that charge point. We make both the level two charging stations as well as now the fast charging stations that are going to be on the superhighway is starting to appear right now. And we also have a business in the both home and multi dwelling unit business as well. But largely this is going to be a big infrastructure play fits very well in with what's going on in the U.S. economy right now and infrastructure building for the electric vehicle market is very important. We're playing into that. So a lot of the capital will come from other sources both private capital as well as industry and there's a lot that will be gained from that in terms of being able to deploy that capital to make the user experience and the OEM is to be able to feel comfortable selling more product into the market .

Use Of Electric Vehicles Is Exploding: Investor

December 6th, 2016, 10:38 PM GMT+0000

According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance, global clean energy investment reached its highest figure ever in 2015 -- $328.9 billion dollars. That is six times what it was in 2004. 2015 also saw the most installation of renewable power capacity, even though a crash in fossil fuel prices was expected to take the wind out of clean tech's sales. Bloomberg TV's Anthony Lacavera speaks to Neil Suslak, Managing Partner of Braemar Energy Ventures, a leading energy venture capital firm. (Source: Bloomberg)
