  • 00:00BIGGEST -- POLIAN -- WE HAVE A REPORTER FROM THE DIGGERS OF FORUM. MORE BEHIND THIS MONSTER GOING WITH THE WEIGHT OF A POLAR BEAR. IT GOES TO SHOW THE PROSPECTS FOR GOLD SEEMS TO BE A KEEPS SHINING. IT IS QUITE BIG AS WELL. HOW HAS IT BEEN AT THE MOMENT? >> AT THE MOMENT IT IS HOLDING UP VERY WELL. THE WORLD HAS TO SOME DEGREE GOTTEN USED TO ALL OF THE ECONOMIC CRISES AND SOME OF THE OTHER CRISES THAT ARE HAPPENING. BUT GOLD HAS HELD WELL ABOVE $1300. $20 OVERNIGHT, ON THE BACK OF WEAK ECONOMIC DATA OUT OF THE UNITED STATES. AND IS HOLDING UP WELL. YVONNE: WE SAW A LOT OF BUYING FROM RETAIL GOLD BUYERS LEADING UP TO BREXIT, BUT AFTER THE BOAT, WE DID NOT SEE THAT MANY SELLERS. YOU DID MENTION YOUR CUSTOMERS WERE STICKING TO A WAIT-AND-SEE APPROACH. HOW HAS THAT CHANGED NOW? HAVE WE NORMALIZED? >> WHAT WE SAW IMMEDIATELY AFTER BREXIT WAS PEOPLE TAKING PROFIT, INVESTORS TAKING PROFIT. WE HAVE SEEN THAT LEVEL OFF, AND THERE WAS RENEWED INTEREST IN THE METALS. WE ARE SEEING ECONOMIC DATA AROUND THE WORLD NOT IMPROVING TO ANY SUBSTANTIAL DEGREE. PEOPLE ARE STILL SEEKING SAFE HAVENS FOR THEIR ASSETS AND FURTHER THEIR MONEY, AND GOLD IS A WONDERFUL PLACE TO THEM TO FIND A SAFE HAVEN. YVONNE: WE DO SEE THAT OF COURSE . I WANT TO SHOW THIS CHART. YOU MAY NOT SEE IT. THERE ARE SOME CONCERNS THIS GOLD BULL RUN MAY BE COMING TO AN END. IF YOU LOOK AT THIS CHART, WE HAVE SEEN OTHER PRECIOUS METALS, PALLADIUM, PLATINUM, SILVER HAVE OUT STAGED GOLD. YOU EXPRESS -- TWO YOU EXPECT PRICES TO STAY AT THE LEVELS, WILL PICKUP IN DEMAND FOR PHYSICAL GOLD? >> I DO THINK PRICES WILL SUSTAIN AT THESE LEVELS. FOR THE UPSIDE -- REMEMBER PALLADIUM AND PLATINUM HAVE BEEN RECENT. SILVER HAS HAD A RUN-UP, BUT IT WAS VERY SIGNIFICANT FROM ITS ULTIMATE HIGH OF $40 FIVE OR SIX YEARS BACK. AND WHAT HAS HAD A RUN-UP ULTIMATELY THAT LAST STORE OF WEALTH IS GOLD, AND PRICES ARE LIKELY TO SUSTAIN AT THESE LEVELS. BETTY: HOW ABOUT DEMAND? WHERE IS MOST OF THE DEMAND COMING FROM? WHAT ABOUT HERE IN THE U.S.? >> THERE IS CERTAINLY DEMAND IN THE U.S. NOT PERHAPS AS STRONG AS IT WAS FOUR OR FIVE OR SIX MONTHS AGO, BUT DEMAND IS STILL QUITE STEADY. WE ARE SEEING DEMAND IN CHINA AND EUROPE AS WELL. CHINA IS FLAT AT THE MOMENT, BUT WE HAVE A TEAM OF PEOPLE IN BEIJING LAST WEEK. THE MOOD THEY BROUGHT BACK WITH THEM IS CERTAINLY ONE THAT IS PRETTY BULLISH WITHIN CHINA. AS SO FAR AS WE CAN DETERMINE, DEMAND FROM A CHINESE MARKET IS LIKELY TO RETURN IN THE SECOND PART OF THIS QUARTER OR IN THE EARLY PART OF THE NEXT QUARTER. BETTY: YOU OF ALL PEOPLE WOULD KNOW PEOPLE BY GOLD FOR A VARIETY OF REASONS, AND SOME OF THEM CAN BE QUITE PECULIAR. I AM CURIOUS WHETHER THE U.S. ELECTION HAS ANY EFFECT ON YOUR FORECAST OF WHERE GOLD IS GOING TO GO. IF TRUMP IS ELECTED, DOES THAT MEAN GOLD ACTUALLY RISES? >> I THINK THE AMERICAN ELECTION IS A VERY INTERESTING PIECE OF THE FUTURE. CERTAINLY IF SOMEONE LIKE DONALD TRUMP DOES GET HIMSELF ELECTED, IT WILL STIMULATE SOME FEAR WITHIN THE ECONOMY AS TO WHERE THINGS ARE GOING. TRUMP IS VERY MUCH A PROTECTIONIST. HE IS VERY, VERY MUCH FOR ALMOST FORTRESS AMERICA, AND I THINK WHAT YOU WILL SEE IF TRUMP IS ELECTED IS A RISE IN THE GOLD PRICE. IF CLINTON IS ELECTED, I SUSPECT THE RUN-UP WILL NOT BE QUITE AS STRONG. SHE IS MORE MAINSTREAM AND PROBABLY THE ECONOMY WILL BE LESS LIKELY TO SUFFER SHOCKS IF SHE IS ELECTED IN NOVEMBER. YVONNE: ON A FINAL NOTE, WE HAVE SEEN A LOT OF SLOWS, PARTICULARLY IN THE U.S., INTO GOLD EGM IF YOU WANT TO BUY PROTECTION AGAINST INFLATION. HOW DO YOU MAKE THE CASE AT THIS CONFERENCE, THE PHYSICAL GOLD WHEN YOU ARE SEEING MORE AND MORE PEOPLE BY THAT GOLD PROTECTION -- BUY THAT GOLD PROTECTION INTO ETF? >> ETF IS POPULAR. IT IS EASY AND QUICK TO BUY GOLD. THE DIFFICULTY IS THAT YOU DON'T ACTUALLY HAVE A TITLE TO THE UNDERLYING PHYSICAL. WHEN YOU HAVE A TITLE TO IN ETF IS A SHARE AND THE TRUST. THERE IS NOTHING LIKE PHYSICAL GOLD, WHICH YOU CAN ACTUALLY HOLD, TOUCH. IN THE EVENT OF ARMAGEDDON, ECONOMIC MELTDOWN. THAT IS WHY WE ARE STILL SEEING VERY STRONG ETHICAL DEMAND FROM THIS. EVIL TAKING DELIVERIES AND GOODMAN -- PEOPLE TAKING DELIVERIES AND FINDING STORAGE FACILITIES. BETTY: TELL ME ABOUT THAT GOLD COIN BEHIND YOU. >> THAT GOLD COIN, IT WEIGHS OVER ONE TON. WE MADE IT A FEW YEARS BACK. IT IS THE BIGGEST IN THE WORLD, IN THE GUINNESS WORLD OF RECORDS. THE SECOND IS FROM CANADIAN COLLEAGUES. THEY HAVE A ONE KILOGRAM COIN, BUT THIS IS ONE TIME. THIS IS UNDER 40 MILLION U.S. DOLLARS. IT IS NOT ALL THAT BIG, WHICH UNDERLINES GOLD , GOLD'S PORTABILITY. FOR NOT A LOT OF WEIGHT, YOU CAN TRANSPORT AN AWFUL LOT OF MONEY. THAT IS WHAT PEOPLE HAVE FOUND OVER TIME. HAVING THIS WEALTH AND PHYSICAL
