McFarlane: Brexit Uncertainty Becoming Enemy of Business

Brexit is a “self-inflicted wound” and an exogenous shock for business, John McFarlane, chairman of Barclays Plc, says at a conference hosted by TheCityUK, of which he is also chairman. “Europe’s capital markets are not in Frankfurt, Paris or Dublin; they are in London,” he said, adding that interest rates will more likely be lower for longer. “We don’t know if exit is inevitable,” but “some things will change.”
