Clinton and Sanders Clash Over Wall Street, Progressivism

In a MSNBC debate, things heated up between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders in their first one-on-one contest. The Democratic contenders, in a fight for the party’s liberal base, battled over the progressive label. Sanders criticized Clinton’s ties to big business, while Clinton pointed out that she didn’t think it was very progressive of the Vermont senator to “vote against the Brady Bill five times.” In the evening’s most tense exchange, the former secretary of state accused Sanders of engaging in “an artful smear” against her by suggesting that she’s influenced by the money she has received in contributions from Wall Street.
