VIA Motors Builds Plug-In Hybrid Silverado Pickup Truck

Jan. 15 -- David West, marketing consultant for VIA Motors Inc., demonstrates some of the features of the company's plug-in hybrid version of the four-wheel drive Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. VIA says the truck is designed to operate in all-electric mode for a 40-mile range, then rely on a generator-powered gasoline engine to extend the range to 400 miles on a tank of fuel. The truck can be equipped with a solar-panel bed cover that the company says can add five miles or more of electric range on long sunny days. West speaks on the sidelines of the Automotive News World Congress in Detroit. (Source: Bloomberg)
