Hungary Wheat Crop Said Down to 4 Million Tons on Yields by MTI
Hungary’s wheat harvest fell to about 4 million metric tons as yields slipped, state news service MTI reported, citing an interview with Gyorgy Czervan, state secretary in charge of agriculture.
The quality of the crop is “good to excellent,” with more than 1 million tons of the grain available for export, MTI reported, citing Czervan.
Farmers harvested 675,000 tons of winter barley and 327,000 tons of spring barley, according to the news service.
Hungary produced 4.13 million tons of wheat in 2011, according to Eurostat, the European Union statistics department.
