See Jaw-Dropping Global Travel Photos Picked by the Smithsonian

As herculean tasks go, whittling down more than 48,000 submissions from photographers in 146 countries and territories around the globe ranks right up there—picking our favorites from the finalists of Smithsonian’s 14th Annual Photo Contest was tough enough.

Readers can vote for their favorites among 70 finalists—spread across seven categories, such as People, the American Experience, Altered Images, and Sustainable Travel—through 11:59 p.m. EST on March 27, 2017. Winners will be announced on March 28.
