Emergency contraception is difficult to purchase in the US. It can be expensive — $40 to $50 at the pharmacy — and people might need it at odd hours when stores are closed. Even though it’s an “over-the-counter” drug, it might not physically be on the shelf. Shoppers may need to ask a store clerk to get it for them, which can be intimidating due to the social stigma around sex and unwanted pregnancy.
