At least 18 pupils and three adults were killed during a massacre in a Texas elementary school, officials said, in the deadliest US school shooting in more than four years. The 18-year-old shooter was killed by police, Governor Greg Abbott said during a briefing broadcast on Twitter. The shooting comes days after 10 shoppers were killed in Buffalo, New York. Active shooting incidents in the US have doubled  in the past five years. Each one brings calls for tougher national gun controls, but legislation has failed to pass Congress.
