CDC Casts Doubt on Covid as Kids' Hepatitis Cause

Here’s the latest from the pandemic:

A bout of unexplained pediatric hepatitis cases in Alabama has captured the attention of public health officials — and concerned parents  across the U.S.

At least eight states have said they’re currently investigating or have confirmed cases that meet the criteria for the illness outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and more than 160 cases have been identified worldwide.

While experts are still largely in the dark about what’s causing otherwise healthy kids to be afflicted with serious liver ailments, a report last week from the CDC appeared to cast doubt on Covid-19 as a cause. The agency said that all nine children identified in Alabama had tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 when they were admitted to the hospital and had no evidence of prior Covid-19 infection.
