After a week of soaring tensions, Iran and the U.S. are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel that could resolve a years-long standoff.

The Islamic Republic said a "new understanding" was taking shape at key talks in Vienna. Iran's lead negotiator said serious disagreements remain but that his country was working on a draft text to resurrect the 2015 nuclear deal.

The European Union, Russia and China are lending a helping hand to engineer the restoration of the deal. The talks resume Sunday.
