Bill Gates has never been one to tackle small problems. At the same time, there’s never been a problem quite like climate change.

In his new book—titled, simply, How to Avoid a Climate Disaster—the co-founder of Microsoft Inc. and co-namesake of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation attempts to give others in the fight against global warming the benefit of his vast experience. After making the case for the necessity of zeroing out greenhouse-gas emissions, the book’s chapters are dedicated to climate solutions as applied to the different sectors of the economy—starting with the electricity sector, which contributes the most.
