Philippines Midterm Vote Begins As Marcos-Duterte Feud, China Row Flare

Counting has begun following the Philippines’ midterm elections, which could decide the political future of impeached Vice President Sara Duterte as she feuds with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

All eyes are on the Senate race, where the 12 winners — half of the 24-seat chamber — will be jurors in a July impeachment trial that may disqualify Duterte from holding public office. That would also bar her from running for the 2028 presidential race, when Marcos’ single, six-year term ends.
