South Korean Court to Rule on Opposition Leader’s Case in March
A South Korean appeals court will decide next month whether the country’s main opposition leader violated election laws, a verdict that could shape the political future of the man still considered a top contender to be the nation’s next leader.
The Seoul High Court held a final hearing Wednesday over Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung’s case and said it would deliver a ruling on March 26. A lower court in November found Lee guilty of making false claims in 2021 while campaigning for the presidency, and it handed down a year-long jail term, suspended for two years.
