Renewables Are Poland’s Best Bet to Cut Power Prices, EBRD Says
Poland should ramp up its renewable capacity if it wants to quickly cut energy bills and replace soon-to-be-defunct coal-fired plants, according to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
The European Union’s most coal-reliant economy has been dragging its feet in expanding clean energy sources. The cabinet has yet to agree on a long-term energy policy, but it’s betting that nuclear power, set to start operating in 2036, will help it gradually replace coal. Advances in technology and falling costs make renewable energy a quicker fix, EBRD’s Head of Energy Europe Grzegorz Zielinski said in an interview.
