The city of Los Angeles should try to acquire a golf course-sized tract that’s up for auction in the tony Bel-Air neighborhood, to protect the rugged canyon from development, according to a motion introduced Friday.

Bids are due by March 15 for the 260-acre (105-hectare) property, called Senderos Canyon, with a $39 million minimum.
