Since last Friday, opposition to China’s zero-tolerance Covid policies has been gathering steam across the vast country.
Protesters have taken to the streets in a public outpouring of anger and frustration, with some even calling for President Xi Jinping to step down, a level of national dissent unheard of since he took power a decade ago. Others have clashed with officials at residential compounds, defying orders to go into quarantine, while students have demonstrated at university campuses.
