Cemex CEO Says Planet Isn’t Yet Doomed to Miss Warming Target

  • Goal to keep increase within 1.5C is possible, González says
  • Cement company aims to reduce emissions from production

A target to keep global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius isn’t tough enough, according to the chief executive officer of Cemex SAB de CV, one of the largest cement producers in the Americas.

Despite being in a sector that is difficult to decarbonize and projections showing the planet heating up by more than 2 degrees by the end of the century, Fernando González said he believes nascent technologies like carbon capture could keep temperature increases to less than 1.5 degrees.
