Australia is investigating reports that China’s military attempted to try to recruit former Defence Force pilots for training, less than a month after the UK government cracked down on similar actions by British aircrews.
An initial probe by Australia’s Defence Department had found “enough evidence” to warrant a second investigation into the issue, Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles told reporters in Canberra on Wednesday. Marles, who is also Minister for Defence, said any ex-forces personnel who share secrets outside of the government have committed a “clear and unambiguous” crime.
