The hit podcast “Serial” is returning to the case that made it famous.
“Serial” published a new episode on Tuesday after Adnan Syed, the subject of the first season of the true-crime podcast, was released from prison on Monday. Judge Melissa Phinn of the Baltimore City Circuit Court overturned his conviction for the 1999 murder of Hae Min Lee, Syed’s high school classmate. She cited two “alternative suspects” and new evidence that could have affected the outcome of the case. Syed was serving a life sentence and had spent more than two decades in prison, though he maintained his innocence.
