Food Charity Looks to Raise $550 Million to Fight African Hunger

  • Parts of continent gripped by hunger due to drought, conflict
  • A group of farmers have criticized AGRA for misusing funds

The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa plans to raise as much as $550 million to invest over the next five years in food production and agricultural reforms on the continent, according to a new strategy document.

The organization, founded in 2006 by the Rockefeller Foundation and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has already put hundreds of millions of dollars of donor money in seed companies and fertilizer subsidies.
