Hungary’s government fired the nation’s top weather forecasters after a storm prediction prompted officials to call off a major fireworks display in Budapest.

Industry and Technology Minister Laszlo Palkovics dismissed the president and a vice president of the National Meteorological Service on Monday after they forecast a heavy storm for St. Stephen’s day, the anniversary of Hungary’s founding. While the government canceled the show, the storm never materialized.
